NGV’s new exhibition is all about love

The exhibition will take more than 200 artworks from the NGV’s permanent collection, from paintings to sculptures, prints, costumes, and more.

They will cover the Medieval period all the way to the Romantic period, offering a rich representation of how these old societies saw love as a concept and reflected these sentiments in their art.

Love: Art of Emotion has three thematic sections: Anticipation, focusing on courtship and flirtation; Realisation, about acts of love like marriage and motherhood; and Remembrance, devoted to love’s connection to memory and nostalgia.

With it comes an intricate, illustrated 248-page publication highlighting essays from curators and professors, as well as a program of performances and masterclasses.
