Family recipe book from Sicily lands on Swan Street, bringing Nonno’s Monday night feasts to Melbourne’s dining scene.

Richmond’s Swan Street just levelled up its Italian credentials with the opening of Spaghetti Club on Thursday, 14 May.

Born from a faded orange recipe book carried from Sicily to Melbourne, the new Southern Italian spot from MAMAS Dining Group is a heartfelt tribute to co-founder Lucas Gugliandolo’s late Nonno, whose lifetime of cooking now feeds a whole new generation of Melburnians.

The venue channels the warmth of old-school family dinners without slipping into cliché. Expect house-made pasta, live-fire cooking and generous plates that honour Sicilian and Southern Italian roots while feeling right at home in Melbourne.

Head Chef Michael Fleming (ex-Totti’s Bondi) has reinterpreted those treasured family recipes with respect and a touch of modern ease, right down to a Vegemite focaccia nod to classic Italian-Aussie kitchens.

The menu reads like a greatest hits of Sunday (or in this case, any day) feasts: cacio e pepe arancini with black garlic aioli, spaghetti vongole spiked with bottarga and lemon, provolone-stuffed involtini, and Nonno’s Lasagne baked golden at the edges.

The pork chop cotoletta arrives thick and proud with fried capers and green goddess, while desserts hit that sweet spot with tiramisu, ricotta cannoli and honey-drizzled zeppole.

Drinks lean hard into aperitivo culture with sharp Negronis, spritzes, Italian lagers on tap and a smart wine list covering Barolo through to local blends. Signature cocktails include the Sicilian Sour and Not Your Nonno’s Negroni.

The design strikes a perfect balance, with amber lighting, dark timber, stained glass and plush booths create that neighbourhood trattoria feel with just enough contemporary polish. Every weekend from 3 to 5pm they’re running Aperitivo Hour, perfect for easing into the evening with snacks and drinks.

Spaghetti Club is open seven days on 95 Swan Street, bringing serious nostalgia, big flavours and that unmistakable Italian energy to Richmond. Find out more here.
