New Music Days: The ANAM Set – Director’s Cut

Future-focused, thoughtfully curated and artist centric.

New Music Days is a burgeoning three-day festival and the latest offering in experiential programming, bursting forth into the collective sphere of the new and exciting.

Each performance at New Music Days presents budding ideas that facilitate broader social and political discussion. In its inaugural year, the festival focuses on the importance of First Nations composers, voices and stories, how musicians compose and respond to the environment, and the work of female composers in Australia.

Featuring five bold events across three days, audiences will have the opportunity to not only bask in the delight of live music, but to go deeper, engaging in public conversations through pre and post-concert talks.

A celebration of 67 commissioned works in just 8 months.

In 2021 ANAM commenced a remarkable project – commissioning 67 new works for their 67 students. Each composer-student partnership embarked on an artistic adventure, creating works in partnership, a true coming together of creation and performance. New Music Days 2023 seeks to celebrate this epic project with a unique program specially selected by ANAM Artistic Director Paavali Jumppanen.

The Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) is an internationally renowned organisation dedicated to training the most exceptional young musicians from Australia and New Zealand. Each year, ANAM musicians fly between the stage and the studio; performing in over 180 events and receiving hours of one-on-one training and coaching from an esteemed Faculty and impressive list of national and international guest artists.

Their performance in Primrose Potter Salon as part of New Music Days 2023 seeks to celebrate the breadth of ANAM as an organisation. The Australian National Academy of Music’s ANAM Set project in 2021 disrupted the compositional landscape, commissioning 67 works in just 8 months. Fast forward to 2023, The ANAM Set proves its versatility with this ‘Directors Cut’, shining a spotlight on some of the works that have proven to be audience favourites, and that are well on their way to becoming repertoire staples.
