New Home

A house building show demolishes the life of a young couple in this satirical and surrealist play.

Building a home, destroying a life. When the TV crew from the premier architectural programme “New Home” invite Pete and Christina to build their new house for their show, the facade of the happy home is demolished, revealing unsteady foundations.

You have a front row seat to the production of the newest episode of “New Home” with host Kieran McGlashan. Pete and Christina are building a new house on the inherited foundation of Christina’s mother’s cliffside home. Will the trials and tribulations of self building tear a rift in their relationship, or will it make them all the stronger?

“New Home” is an original play inspired by house building shows such as Grand Designs and Restorations Australia. This satirical play focuses on media exploitation and following the sacrifice and breakdown of the family unit through a dark comic dissection of dreams, design, and domestic decay.

The play explores media’s cyclical ability to corrupt and the toll that constant surveillance can have on people and their relationships through heightened surrealist conventions and cine-theatre technology. Take a seat as Kieran McGlashan shows you around a “New Home”
