Netflix has partnered with director and producer Ava DuVernay – the woman behind critically-acclaimed films such as Selma and 13th – to celebrate the life and career of Prince in a forthcoming documentary.
DuVernay expressed her passion for the project in a tweet, dubbing Prince “a joy and a jolt to the senses”. According to the announcement of the forthcoming documentary in Deadline, DuVernay and Prince began discussing the idea of working together on a film prior to the singer’s passing in 2016. Since then, she has received permission from Prince’s Estate to go ahead with the film, as well as full access to archives of recordings and previously unreleased material.
Details are scarce at the moment, though with the project already underway here’s hoping we can expect the film to reach our screens in the not so distant future. See DuVernay’s full statement below.
“Prince was a genius, a joy and a jolt to the senses. He was like no other. He shattered preconceived notions, smashed boundaries, and shared his heart through his music. The only way I know how to make this film is with love and great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful.” https://t.co/fNsISCwtzg
