Ned Kelly: The Big Gay Musical is coming to Melbourne Fringe

Ned Kelly The Big Gay Musical
Words by Staff Writer

The outlawed Kelly Gang are fighting to establish the Queerdom of Slaytoria but Victoria Police are hot on the gang's tail. Join the infamous bushrangers as they fight for what’s right and destroy their colonialist overlords.

Ned Kelly: the Big Gay Musical is back after a near sold out season at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

This original musical with a live band is a flaps-to-the-wall drag king extravaganza that explores the infamous Kelly Gang through a queer lens. Consider it a reimagining of the iconic bushrangers with the heroes of the story being members of the LGBTQIA+ community striving for peace, equity, equality, kindness and butch fabulousness as they explore their gender and sexuality in a heteronormative and colonialist society.

They are ready to take down British colonialism all whilst being the butchest as butch can be.

The cast of five: Ellen Marning, Erin McIntosh, Monique Kerr, Sian Dowler, and Sunny Youngsmith are sliding on their trouser packers to entertain.

The show’s live band, The Glen Rowans, accompany the performers throughout the show with hits written and composed by Kaine! such as We Put The Bush In Ranger, and Terrorist or Fabulous.

Kaine! is a music comedian from Ballarat, who studied at Victorian College of The Arts. He has written and performed his absurd brand of comedy at Melbourne Comedy Festival and Melbourne Fringe Festival since 2019.

His latest rave musical I’m A Clock And You Can’t Stop Me came after previous work such as the death-tacular cabaret Wonderwall: 8 Song About Death. No Aussie legend is safe, not even the bearded ones!
