Melbourne's cheekiest museum is throwing a wild birthday party to celebrate its first year of operation.
The Museum of Desire has been making Melburnians blush, giggle and question their boundaries since opening its doors in 2024. Now the Collingwood institution is marking its first birthday with two nights of performance art, desserts and after-dark mischief on 5 and 6 December from 6pm.
Over 50,000 curious souls have wandered through the museum’s interactive installations this year, making it one of Melbourne’s most talked-about cultural experiences. The venue scored two Time Out Arts & Culture awards in August, including the People’s Choice for Favourite Museum Experience and the Critics’ Choice Impact Award.

The birthday celebrations will feature performances by Davey Seagle from Pony Dog Productions presenting TattleTales: Immersive Tarot Storytelling (Smut Edition), where audiences help craft sensual stories using tarot cards. Life-casting specialist Claire Tennant from Cast My Body will also showcase her body casting skills live at the museum.
Birthday perks include strutting down a hot pink carpet, decadent desserts, 20 per cent off merchandise, lucky dips and extended opening hours. Anyone who visited during the first year gets VIP pricing throughout December.
The museum continues to evolve with new installations like Listen to Your Pussy by artist Zoe Awen and The Little Vegas Love Chapel. Crowd favourites remain the Orgasm Harp (a laser harp that responds exactly how you think), the Joy Room featuring a ball pit of boobs and dildo quoits, plus the Heart Beat Glass room where entwined heartbeats become visible.
