Muckle Pup mixes tranquil vocals with hypnotic guitar fingerpicking, simple percussion hooks, looped riffs and field recordings, all wrapped in warm analog tones. Muckle Pup’s songs gracefully sidestep the modern tendency towards shallow, disposable culture. His music is both experimental and melodic, mellow yet haunting, with lyrics steeped in canny observation, honesty and intimacy.
Raised in Caledonia, Muckle Pup came to Australia from the UK in 2007. During a period of experimentation in his songwriting and recording techniques, he developed a distinctive and introspective acoustic style. February 2010 saw the release of his debut EP Secession. After a series of successful shows around Melbourne, Muckle Pup took time out to record Gone To Cede in the winter of 2010. Both are available as digital releases from mucklepup.com
Muckle Pup will play at Vibe On Smith, 123 Smith Street, Fitzroy at 9pm on Friday December 10 as part of the Songwriters In The Round Night. Entry is $5 on the door.
