This special event will celebrate the connection between music and film with the MSO performing a repertoire of popular film scores in front of The Astor Theatre’s heritage-listed screen.

“Orchestral music and cinema have a longstanding bond and this mini concert will explore this connection with a free performance for music lovers and movie buffs alike,” said MSO Managing Director André Gremillet.

The performance will provide a taste of the 2015 season by performing repertoire from “cult classics” featured in next year’s program at the iconic cinema. It will will include works by Albinoni, Beethoven, Jonny Greenwood, Strauss and Nigel Westlake and will kick start a week-long city adventure offering Melburnians the chance to experience the MSO in unexpected locations.

“Prior to tickets for our 2015 season going on sale, we are encouraging the community to further explore our great city and discover the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in places where you have never seen us before,” noted Mr Gremillet.

“We have commissioned celebrated local street artists to create unique visual interpretations of concerts featured in our 2015 line up. We are also giving one lucky person the chance to win the first ever MSO Golden Ticket – two tickets to every program in the 2015 season.”
