Northcote Social Club is serving up three completely different vibes this week with Mountain Boy, Elsie Lange and Khan.
First up on 25 November, New Zealand folk rock artist Mountain Boy brings his Australian tour to Northcote. The project of songwriter and producer Aaron Clarke, Mountain Boy rose from an ambitious year-long journey creating 52 songs in 52 weeks. Clarke originally hails from Melbourne but landed in Hamilton, New Zealand at 16, where the mountains and beaches shaped his sound.
His debut album The Days dropped earlier this year, blending pop-influenced folk with cinematic soundscapes. Tracks like Let It Lie, Lucky and Millions showcase his willingness to lean into quirks rather than shy away from them. Mountain Boy has toured alongside The Paper Kites and continues to build a loyal following across Australia and New Zealand.

Then, folk pop singer-songwriter Elsie Lange takes the stage on 26 November. Originally from Alice Springs, Lange has spent the past decade embedded in Melbourne’s independent music scene before recently returning home to the red centre. Her debut EP Talk To Me explores love, loss and belonging through warm, nostalgic storytelling.
Recent singles Sally and Heatwave both feature on her forthcoming album The Normal Discontents of Living, due out in May. Lange’s music draws inspiration from classic folk artists like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen alongside contemporary acts like Sharon van Etten and Nick Cave. She performs with her band Local Derby, bringing her wistful, velvet-voiced songs to life.
Progressive heavy psych trio Khan wraps up the week on 29 November with a hometown celebration. The Melbourne band is touring their fourth studio album That Fair and Warlike Form // Return to Dust, a concept record featuring two 23-minute songs exploring the mythology of Erlik, the Turkic god of death.
Khan meld hazy psychedelia with stoner riffs, progressive rhythms and industrial-scale crescendos. The trio has spent 2024 touring festivals across Europe including Desertfest London, Desertfest Berlin and Dunk!festival in Belgium. They’ll perform the new album in its entirety alongside cuts from their back catalogue, joined by special guests Myriad Drone and Skin Thi.
