Dromana Pier upgrades in Mornington Peninsula have started with new stairs, timber decking and accessible water access set for completion next summer.
Works have begun on upgrades to Dromana Pier, a popular Mornington Peninsula spot for fishing, walking, boating and swimming.
Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne today announced the start of construction as part of a $46 million investment to deliver upgrades to piers and jetties across Victoria.
Parks Victoria awarded a $4,98 million contract to Duratec Australia for the demolition of the existing concrete pier and construction of the new pier at Dromana.
Originally constructed in the 1860s, Dromana Pier once stretched almost 500 metres into Port Phillip Bay, serving as a crucial arrival point for steamships and cargo before road infrastructure connected the Peninsula to Melbourne. Now measuring just under 200 metres, the historic pier is set to be torn down and reconstructed to continue serving the community as it has for over 150 years.

Dromana Pier will get improved water access for swimming with new stairs, solid timber decking and a terrace area providing views of the Mornington Peninsula foreshore, Port Phillip Bay and Arthurs Seat.
Community consultation shaped the design, which has retained the lower landing and included an extended ramp for accessible water access. New upgrades will service the local community for years to come, with completion scheduled for summer next year.
While construction is underway, the neighbouring George Bishop Reserve carpark will close, with parking available at Dromana Foreshore Reserve or along Point Nepean Road in Mornington Peninsula. Foreshore and beach areas adjoining the construction site will be fenced off so equipment and materials can be safely moved between the compound and construction site during works.
