The Moreland Hotel dining room earned cult status across Melbourne. Ancient Rome met Renaissance Florence in spectacular fashion. A towering replica of Michelangelo’s David dominated the space.

Customers discovered another world inside. The exterior offered few hints about the spectacle within. Greek-style lettering above the entrance provided the only clue.

The kitschy decor attracted diners from everywhere. Historical elements mixed in wild combinations. No other Melbourne venue matched its theatrical atmosphere.

Plans for a Moreland Hotel renovation emerged three years ago. The owners finally pulled the trigger this week. Construction equipment already fills the car park on site.

Luckily, the gaming room and public bar stays open during works. Only the bistro faces demolition and reconstruction.

The venue targets reopening in early-mid 2026. For now, Brunswick temporarily loses a dining landmark.
