Just remember to take those Lactaid pills.
Layer it in a lasagna. Drizzle it with warm honey. Pipe it into a cannoli. There’s something about ricotta that just makes everything more delicious.
Finally, the creamy and versatile dairy delight is getting the respect it deserves with a day-long festival held in its honour. On March 26, ricotta fans from across Melbourne will gather at the That’s Amore Cheese venue to taste their way through pillowy piles at this Italian-style sagra.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.
To help guests work up an appetite, the event will feature a mobile jungle gym, handball games hosted by the Carlton Football Club Fan Van, and a petting zoo for the little ones. Grupo Vallenato Cumva Band and DJ Stefano Marciano will be pumping the beats all day long, while traditional Sicilian Tarantella dancers demonstrate the moves on the D-floor.
While we’d be perfectly happy spooning up fresh ricotta all by itself, there will also be a variety of other food options available as well.

Grab a plate of hot ricotta served out of a giant vat and add a dollop to Sicilian-style barbeque from U’fuculari, wood-fired pizzas from Primo Street Pizza Co, gluten-free bruschetta from Senza Wellness Food or twisted potato skewers courtesy of Curly Spuds. Finish it off with a scoop of gelato or a boozy drink from one of the on-site bars.
As you snack, take a browse through the marketplace and stock up on local honey, panforte, cured meats, baby figs and Italian chili oil – everything you need for your next cheese board.
Earlybird tickets to the Ricotta Festival on March 26 cost only $8 and include a plate of ricotta calda on entry. To grab yours now, head here.
