Milton Jones : The Temple of Daft

Appearing to be a confused tourist, or an aspiring bounty hunter, or even just a daggy dad, Milton Jones certainly dressed the part for his latest show, Milton Jones and the Temple of Daft. Inviting the audience to suggest the title of its hero, he soon found himself working with the unlikely pairing of ‘Hercules Bonaparte’.

Not that it related much to the overall story, which took Bonaparte on a journey to find a lost treasure through a labyrinth of trains, schools, mountains and pretty air hostesses. His humour relied heavily on word play, scripted cleverly into the plotlines and delivered at unexpected twists and turns. A somewhat difficult style of comedy to succeed in, and certainly a divider of the audience when the jokes are coming thick and fast, and only some are actually understood. We’ll put it down to the fact that he’s British.

Without batting an eyelid, he also proved his word play wizardry by quizzing the crowd for random themes and working off the cuff to make us giggle. Even the awkward silences that ensued after a particularly weird suggestion seemed to only do him favours. A treat for all those who love a good dad joke – even dad himself.
