If you’ve got a favourite artist, chances are Memo Music Hall is honouring them this February with tribute shows all month long.

As summer is coming to a close, Memo Music Hall is here to make sure the parties aren’t too. The beloved live music venue south of the city has got a choc-a-bloc February of shows that honour your old favourite musicians, as well as offer you the chance to discover your new favourite ones.

Nothing quite beats belting out the lyrics to a song you know and love. Whether it be Michael Jackson, Tom Waits, Joe Cocker, George Michael, or pretty much any tune from the last 50 years, bets are you might hear it at Memo this month. Plus, there are a whole bunch of original acts and old-school performers hitting the stage again.

Basically, you’re spoilt for choice. Read on to find out what legendary musos are playing or being paid homage to this February at Memo Music Hall.

Taylor Sheridan is bringing the rolling hills of regional Victoria to the heart of St Kilda this month. Memo Music Hall is making space for this golden boy of acoustic storytelling as he gears up for a show of intricate lyrics, soulful tunes and heartfelt messages.

Get ready for a tribute show to one of the biggest legends in music history. Bringing Tom Waits’ Rain Dogs and other gems by the treasured artist to the stage will be Dave Graney, Lachlan Bryan, Brooke Taylor, Deslinki and Maggie Alley, as well as an all-star band featuring Ben Franz, Holly Thomas, Stacey Gray and Ania Reynolds.

If you’re a cricket fan, this one’s for you. Sport and music combine in this explosion of comedy, wit, songs and mayhem as Denis Carnahan brings his one-man show Cricket The Musical: 5 for 25 to the Memo stage.

Zydeco Jump: The Gerry Hale Years

It was one fateful Sunday afternoon in St Kilda in 1989 that Zydeco Jump first introduced their memorable band to audiences. Flash forward over 35 years later and these legends are back in the south side of town to commemorate an extraordinary career of moving and grooving. Gerry Hale – one of the band’s earliest singers – will be joining Zydeco Jump for this show for the history books.

Moonwalkers unite – MJ is coming to town. Or, at least, triple threat extraordinaire Paul Rizzo will be, along with a troupe of dancers and musicians as they bring the story of the king of pop to life. A jukebox musical of all your favourite MJ hits, this is ramping up to be one hell of a thriller. 

Machinations: Big Weekend Tour

Be transported to the summer of 1981 when the days were long, the weekends were big and the music even bigger. Machinations will be taking you right back to that summer with their Big Weekend Tour at Memo Music Hall this month, playing songs from across their discography that will have you reminiscing on the good old days.

The Joe Cocker Express is a tribute show like no other. Taking you on a journey of the music of the legendary Joe Cocker, from Mad Dog to The Englishman, this is shaping up to be one hell of a ride. The show will be divided into two acts to delve into the weeds of Joe Cocker’s career. Expect The Englishman in the first act, Mad Dog in the second.

Make sure you wear your dancing shoes to this show – there’s a good chance you’ll need them. Eugene Hamilton and his band The Money will be bringing their eccentric energy and immaculate vibes to St Kilda this Saturday in February for a night of breaking down musical boundaries. Borrowing a little of something from every genre, expect your old favourites, as well as discovering your new ones.

George Michael fans are in for a treat as Andrew De Silva pays Memo Music Hall a visit to wrap up February. Things will be getting Too Funky with Andrew and his band as they guide you through George Michael’s greatest hits, from Father Figure to Freedom, plus heaps more.
