Michael Chamberlin is cheeky, witty and audacious. In his latest comedic offering, Things I Haven’t Done, he is breaking out of his comfort zone kicking and screaming, and ready to embrace life and all its experiences.

“Essentially I’ve gone and done some things that I haven’t ever done. I realised that I spend all of my time trying not to be ‘That Guy.’ I think I’m a very non-spontaneous person, and I didn’t really like that about myself a great deal. So I’ve actually tried to stop being that. I look at it this way: you’re walking past a building that you’ve walked past a hundred times, and you’ve always kind of wondered what’s in there. I’m actually going to be going in there.”

Although Michael Chamberlin has dabbled in various other performance media, he maintains a devout love for stand up comedy. “Stand-up is awesome. Just by the fact that you can get up on stage and you can say whatever the hell you want, and there’s no one to tell you off. All you get is the audience are going to laugh, or they’re not going to laugh. Some of the things you can say on stage, if you walked outside the venue and said the same things on the street you’d get arrested. Or someone would come up and punch you in the face. I just love that idea that you can say whatever you like, just because you have a microphone and a spotlight on you, and people think it’s entirely okay. I love doing that.

“You should come and see my show because at the end of it I’m going to give you a hug. Oh and the best audience member at the end of each show wins a car. Yep, we’re going to be giving away like 21 cars during the run of my show. It’s going to push our budget a bit, but that’s how much I’m committed to the audience.”

He’s joking of course. About the cars, not his commitment to the audience.

Michael Chamberlin performs Things I Haven’t Done at The Victoria Hotel’s Acacia Room from March 31 – April 24. It’s at 8.30pm Tuesday – Saturday and 7.30pm on Sundays. Tickets are $20 – $23 and available from Ticketmaster online, 1300 660 013 and at the door.
