MICF ENTREES (Early Shows, until 7pm)
The Early Show: A Festival Showcase
Still not sure what to see at the festival in spite of our recommendations? This showcase hosted by The Exford Hotel could come in handy. The Early Show presents a selection of the finest acts performing at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival. With any luck, you’ll be able to find a new favourite act and see their show in the same evening. Combining local and international stars, an early time and bargain price – that is, six acts for the price of one – the Early Show is a great way to kick off a big night at the festival. Check it out Wed-Sat 6:15pm, at the Exford Hotel.
MICF MAIN MEALS (Prime Time, 7pm-10pm)
Bicycle! Bicycle! Behold Spokey Blokeys, a unique podcast in which Shane Matheson and fellow cyclist and comedian Rodney Todd ride around town, joking and philosophising as great mates do. You might be wondering how a stage-version of the podcast would even work, but the pair have found a way. Spoiler: it involves a projector and some imagination on your part. Join them at Trades Hall, Wed-Sat 7pm and Sun 6pm for the most fun you can have on two wheels. (or four, if you want to get technical about it)
Susie Youssef – Check Youssef Before You Wreck Youssef
Susie Youssef has many strings to her bow, the acclaimed comedian also an actor, writer, and improviser. Basically, she’s extremely talented and people are starting to wake up to the fact. With that in mind, you’ll need to catch her new sketchy stand-up show while there are still tickets available. Get on board Wed-Sat 7pm and Sun 6pm at the Melbourne Town Hall.
Sami Shah – I, Migrant and Other Stories
Pakistani comedian/writer Sami Shah has an incredible tale to tell – one that has featured on ABC’s Australian Story, as well as the The New York Times. It even became the basis for a best-selling autobiography. Shah finally gets to perform for us at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Catch up on his story at The Coopers Malthouse, Wed-Sat 7.15pm and Sun 6.15pm.
MICF DESSERTS (Late Shows, 10pm onwards)
Frank Hampster – Cardinal Sins
It takes a bold performer to broach child abuse in a comedy show, but it’s clearly important to Frank Hampster to start a conversation. In this show, Hampster draws upon his experiences as a former St. Patrick’s college Ballarat student and altar boy of George Pell, detailing his journey through the Royal Commission. Catch one of the more unique and most likely challenging shows on at the festival, Wed-Sat 10pm at Club Voltaire.
MICF SPECIALS (One-Offs and Discounts)
Hosted by the insanely talented and insanely funny The Daredevil Chicken Club, So You Think You Can Dance… Funny hits the Festival Club one more time. This evening’s line-up features Lords Of Strut (IRL), Dave Callan, Damian Callinan, Isabel & Rachel, Juan Vesuvius (NZ), The Kagools (UK) and Andy Saunders. It all kicks off 11:30pm at the Festival Club.
