AWARD NOMINEES: It took a few extra days, but finally the nominees for the Barry and Best Newcomer awards have been announced. The Barry, which is awarded to the festival’s best show have announced the following nominees: Luisa OmielanJohn KearnsSteen RaskopoulosLawrence Mooney, Sam Simmons and Damien Power. The best newcomer, which is awarded to the best artist performing for the first time at MICF has the following nominees: Corey WhiteCalypso NightsSam Campbell, and Heidi O’Loughlin. The winners will be announced at a special edition of Festival Club – Saturday April 18 at The Hi-Fi.

EXTRA SHOWS: As we’re in the final week of the festival, a bunch of popular acts have added extra editions to give everyone a chance to see them. The following shows have been added:

Law Revue 2015 – No Regerts. 9.45pm Thursday at Trades Hall.

Juan Vesuvius – Calypso Nights. 9.45pm Thursday, Friday, Saturday at the Tuxedo Cat.

Nick Cody – Beard Game Strong. 9.45pm Friday, 11pm Saturday at ACMI.

FAMILY: School holidays might be over, but that doesn’t mean The (very) Big Laugh Out is over. Frenchman Mathieu Moustache presents Circo, Musica y Flamenco! 5pm today at the City Square Pitch, entry is free.

FILM: If you missed out on tickets the last time around, comedy film The Heckler will have an encore screening – 7pm tonight at Kino Cinema in the city.


DEBATE: The final Farouk’s Comedy Debates for this festival takes place tonight at Farouk’s Olive in Thornbury. The verbal sparring bell is rung at 9pm.
