EXTRA SHOWS: As the festival’s close draws nearer, a few more extra shows have been announced for this weekend. Zoe Coombs Marr, whose standup character piece Dave has sold out its remaining run has added an extra date on Friday April 19 at 11pm. Two extra editions of Wes Snelling and Kate McClennan’s sketch show set inside a hotel – Standard Double have been announced for Friday at 10pm, and Saturday at 5pm. And Best Newcomer nominee Luke McGregor has moved rooms and added an extra show – the new show will be moved to the Gold Room at the Portland Hotel, Sunday April 21 at the afternoon time of 3.45pm. We will have a full list of all this weekend’s bonus shows in tomorrow’s edition of MICF Daily.

Now the 2013 festival isn’t over just yet, but one performer is already looking forward to 2014. Dave Callan, whose show The Psychology of Laughter has picked up strong reviews will provide a sample of his 2014 MICF show this weekend. A Little Less Conversation is an hour of dance, with Callan and dancers Clare Nica and Melissa Bruce showing off their finest moves. See it tomorrow and Saturday, 11pm at Trades Hall.
Nick Coyle is currently in town, exhibiting his new show Double Treatment. The Sydney native who is part of the Pig Island collective has previously performed as part of the festival, but is doing his own thing in 2013. See Coyle’s show 8pm tonight at 25a Eastment St Northcote, opposite the Northcote Town Hall. Tickets are $15 on the door.
PODCASTS: Podcast The Sweetest Plum tapes a live episode tonight at Trades Hall. Special guests Steven Gates from Tripod, plus recent MICF Daily guests Geraldine Quinn and David Quirk will drop by the popular show, hosted by Nick Maxwell and Declan Fay. John Robertson, who is currently performing late night show Kinkling all weekend has announced that on the show’s conclusion, he will add a special 20 minutes of The Dark Room every night. Also up late tonight, Comedy Bonanza returns to Festival Club this evening with a big lineup in store. Festivities kick off 11.15pm at The Hi-Fi Bar, get your tickets at the door. Late Night Theatresports gets the improv going, 11pm tonight at the Town Hall. Dom Romeo launches into the questions with another edition of Stand-Up Sit-Down: Comics in Conversation also at 11pm at the Victoria Hotel. Other late night shows include Facty Fact, The New Conway Tonight Show, Capital Punishment, The After Party, Blernshaw Comedy, and my personal favourite late night show, Ali McGregor’s Late-Nite Variety-Nite Night.
