– We are currently in a transition stage of the festival, with a bunch of shows closing and a new bunch about to start. Shows closing tonight include Tim Ferguson, Rich Hall, the Rubberbandits and Dave Bloustien to name but a few. Shows that have recently started include Set List, the Pajama Men, Danny Bhoy, and Michael Connell.
– EXTRA SHOWS: A bunch of extra shows have been announced for this week, so try these alternative timeslots for some bonus comedy fun:
– Hannah Gadsby‘s Nakedy Nudes tours the art world at 3.30pm. Limited tickets avaliable at the National Gallery of Victoria.
– SPECIAL EVENTS: It is Great Debate day yet again, as for the 24th time the festival’s biggest brains and deadliest debaters go to battle. The event takes place at 5pm today at the Melbourne Town Hall. Another special event on today is the Deadly Funny National Showcase, which features this country’s finest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander comics. The show will be MC’ed by Constantina Bush, and will also feature a special set from Sean Choolburra. Limited tickets are on sale for both events – go to Ticketmaster for more info.
– American Comedian Ian Edwards is a late scratching at the 2013 festival, and will no longer be a part of the Headliners show. Edwards, who has appeared on HBO’s Bad Boys of Comedy and wrote for Saturday Night Live was scheduled to perform with Brendon Walsh, Jessica Kirson, and James Adomian on the best of American comedy showcase. Headliners takes place Tuesday through Sunday at the Melbourne Town Hall.
– KIDS COMEDY: Want to take the kids to experience the comedy festival? Today The (very) Big Laugh Out is on at the City Square Pitch and Federation Square, and better yet it’s totally free. Mooky Cornish takes on the City Square Pitch at 11.30am, with Daniel Oldaker on at 12.30am. And at 2pm, The List Operators host a kids supershow with guests Les Chiche Capon, the Lords of Strut, Hilby, and Mooky Cornish. Other family shows on today include Mr. Snot Bottom’s Stinky Silly Show, Frehd & Tim Eee Have All The Fun, and the Comedy Club for Kids. – Cult podcast Something for the Drive Home records a live show this evening. The podcast hosted by Melbourne comics Bart Freebairn and Nick Cody is known for it’s low brow humour and love of recording in interesting locations. The two will be at Five Boroughs Bar on Hardware Lane tonight from 8:30, get your tickets from TryBooking or at the door.
– WALKING TOURS: Comedy walking tours are the in thing at the 2013 festival. Rod Quantock gets the tours going at 1pm today with his Fourth Annual Mystery Comedy Walking Tour – meet under the Portico at the Melbourne Town Hall. Tickets are on sale for the event from Ticketmaster – no tickets will be sold at the Meeting Point. Meanwhile, Xavier Toby and Micah D Higbed lead their walking tour 2013 – When We Were Idiots at 2pm and 6pm. Meet at the Bourke & Willis Statue in the City, tickets from TryBooking and by the statue.
– LATE NIGHT: Stay up late with another Festival Club Sunday Night Lock In kicking off at the earlier time of 10.15pm. Featuring the best in cabaret, musical comedy, dance and circus acts; Wizard Sandwiches will host Tommy Bradson, Zoe Coombs Marr, Daniel Oldaker, the Lords of Strut, Hilby and Jarek Jekyll. After the comedy, DJ Dick Versace (aka Vachel from Slow Clap) generates the grooves on the 1s and 2s. Tickets at the door.
– Also on late night: Best Comics, Worst Gigs returns with guests Wil Anderson, Anne Edmonds, Dave Thornton, and Tommy Little. 10pm tonight at the Town Hall. Other shows up late include Ali McGregor‘s Late-Nite Variety-Nite Night, Capital Punishment, Stand-Up Sit-Down: Comics in Conversation, The After Party, and the final Heaps Good SA Showcase.
