To celebrate today’s RAW Comedy Grand Final, we have brought on a 2012 Grand Finalist who is now a member of young comedy dream team in The Comedy Zone – Hayman Kent. See Hayman with Ivan Aristeguieta, Neel Kolhatkar, Tien Tran, and Amos Gill 7.15pm tonight and next Sunday, then 8.15pm Tuesday through Saturday at Trades Hall.

Today’s MICF Daily News:

– Last night at Festival Club the nominees for the festival’s Barry Award and Golden Gibbo Award were announced. The Barry, awarded for the festival’s best show has announced Hannah GadsbyMax and IvanMichael WorkmanRich HallTrevor NoahKitty Flanagan, and The New Conway Tonight Show as it’s nominees. The Golden Gibbo is awarded for the festival’s finest local independent shows, and this year the nominees are Standard DoubleSimon KeckSlutmonster & FriendsThe Writers, and Tommy Bradson. The winners, along with the Melbourne Airport Best Newcomer, Piece of Wood, and Director’s Choice award will be announced next Saturday at Festival Club.

– EXTRA SHOWS: As we get into the final week of the festival, extra editions of festival shows have been announced giving you several more opportunities to see shows that have been selling out constantly. Here are the extras for this week:

– ONE-OFFS: Three special one-offs take place at the fest today. Launching today at the festival is a self-proclaimed “revolution in sketch comedy”. The Spin Cycle, a new sketch comedy show to air on C31 later in the  year debuts on the scene with a live special today. The show features the talents of Melissa Crotty, Matt Grantham, CJ Jenkins, JJ Mclean, Mayumi NobetsuTerry North, and Uma Thakar. See it live – 3pm today at the Hairy Little Sista. Tickets at the door.

– The RAW Comedy Grand Final takes place 5pm today at the Town Hall. The festival ran contest is a nationwide search to find Australia’s funniest new comedians, which was won by this year’s Moosehead recipient Lessons with Luis. State final winners competing include Cameron Duggan (Queensland), Aaron Chen (New South Wales), Jay Morrissey (Victoria), Demi Lardner (South Australia), Chris Menzies (Tasmania), Justin Crooks (Northern Territory), Tim Noon (Australian Capital Territory), and Sean Conway (Western Australia), and they will be joined by wild-carded entrants Colin Ebsworth (Western Australia), Becky Lewis (Queensland), and Andy Matthews and Megan McKay (Victoria). Also just announced will be a feature set from Celia Pacquola, in addition to special guest Neeti Palta – the winner of RAW Comedy IndiaMatt Okine will host. – Podcast Something for the Drive Home tapes a live episode this evening at Five Boroughs Bar. The show, hosted by Melbourne comics Bart Freebairn and Nick Cody is known for its low brow humour and love of recording in interesting locations. The two hit record from 8.30pm, get your tickets from TryBooking and at the door.


– WALKING TOURS: Get your feet a’movin and your mouth a’laughin with a comedy walking tour today. Rod Quantock gets the tours going at 11am and 1pm today with his Fourth Annual Mystery Comedy Walking Tour – meet under the Portico at the Melbourne Town Hall. Tickets are on sale for the event from Ticketmaster – no tickets will be sold at the Meeting Point. But if you want to review the year 2013 (despite it only being April), Xavier Toby and Micah D Higbed lead their walking tour 2013 – When We Were Idiots at 2pm and 6pm. Meet at the Bourke & Willis Statue in the City, tickets from TryBooking and by the statue. And Ged and Jamie get the laughs going on This is History… Melbourne: A Walking Tour – Involving Walking… A Questionable History of The History of Melbourne. The tour departs 6.30pm, from the Exford Hotel, get your tickets from the venue.

– LATE NIGHT: In late night news, Festival Club hosts the final Sunday Night Lock InBron BattenJon BennettJoel TitoHacki and Moppi, and The Kransky Sisters are on the lineup, with hosts The Pajama Men. Head to The Hi-Fi Bar at the slightly earlier time of 10.15pm tonight for the action, get your tickets at the door.

Also on late night: Best Comics, Worst Gigs returns with guests Fiona O’Loughlin, Josh Thomas, Celia Pacqola, Damian Callinan, and Greg Sullivan. 10pm tonight at the Town Hall.
