Today on the show, host Mike Brown speaks to hot young standup Ronny Chieng about on-stage aggression, mock trials, and what’s new in Ronny Chieng merchandise. See Ronnie tonight in his show, Can You Do This? No You Can’t. The show takes place at the Melbourne Town Hall at 7pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 6pm on Sunday.

Today in MICF Daily News:

– The first reviews of the festival are in, and all signs are that the festival is higher quality then ever. The Herald-Sun has awarded four and a half stars to yesterday’s MICF Daily guest Tegan Higginbotham for her solo show Touched by Fev, with two four star reviews also awarded: Matt Elsbury for his show Middle Raged and Simon Abrahams and Lachlan MacLeod for their show Saturn Returns. Over at Squirrel Comedy, positive reviews have been posted for St Kilda Comedy at Felix Bar and The DC3.  And What’s On Comedy have given the thumbs up to Jack Tandy in his show Jack Tandy Forever

– Festival tracker Laugh Track is on the hunt for volunteers. The website, which determines Twitter’s favourite shows requires people to filter through the Twitter hivemine to confirm they are tweeting about festival shows. Hit up @pat on Twitter if you can help out. 

– WALKING TOURS: Is 2013 the year of the comedy walking tour? If it is, today is the day to do one. Rod Quantock gets the tours going at 1pm today with his Fourth Annual Mystery Comedy Walking Tour – meet under the Portico at the Melbourne Town Hall. Tickets are on sale for the event from Ticketmaster – no tickets will be sold at the Meeting Point. But if you want to review the year 2013 (despite it only being March), Xavier Toby and Micah D Higbed lead their walking tour 2013 – When We Were Idiots at 2pm and 6pm. Meet at the Bourke & Willis Statue in the City, tickets from TryBooking and by the statue.

– FAMILY COMEDY: Want to take the kids to experience the comedy festival? Today The (very) Big Laugh Out is on at the City Square Pitch and Federation Square, and better yet it’s totally free. Featuring acts such as Mooky Cornish from Canada, and Les Chiche Capon from France, the big show takes place today at 11:30 and 12:30 today at the City Square Pitch, with a massive two hour showcase kicking off at 2pm at Fed Square. Other family shows on today include Glenn Elston, Dr. Professor Neal Portenza, and the Comedy Club for Kids. – LIVE PODCASTS: Two podcasts tape live episodes today. I Love Green Guide Letters with special guests Tom Ballard, Sam Pang, and Tony Martin; 4:15pm today at the Town Hall. Open Mic Life, the podcast hosted by Doug Gordon and Russell Wigginton tapes from 5:30pm at the Sahara Restaurant & Bar on Swanston St. 

– DAYTIME LAUGHS: Saturday afternoon contains plenty more daytime specials, so skip the footy and head out to the festival. Daniel Kitson presents his Work in Progress at 11am this morning at the Tuxedo Cat. Australian and English comics go to war at Ashes: The Comedy Showdown, 1:30pm today at the Exford. Matthew Grant presents his art installation and character piece Me, Me, Me and Me. 2pm at Kado in Richmond. The Best of British showcase, 3:30pm at the Exford. And FanFiction Comedy returns with a Harry Potter special featuring Tegan Higginbotham and Adam Richards – 5:30pm today at the Victoria Hotel.

– LATE NIGHT LOLS: In late night news, Festival Club returns with another Comedy Bonanza at the Hi-Fi Bar. Hosted by Joel Creasey, tonight’s show features David QuirkXavier MichelidesAdam RozenbachsDixie Longate, and David O’Doherty. Once the comedy finishes, the DJ team of Tom Ballard and Dave Callan get behind the decks to generate the boogie. Show starts at 11:30pm, tickets at the door.

– Also returning tonight are two showcases of state based comedy. Capital Punishment features Canberra’s finest comedians, 11pm tonight at the Melbourne Town Hall. But if you want some West End Bitter with your comedy – Angus Hodge, Chris Knight, and Kel Balnave perform as part of the Heaps Good South Australian Showcase – 11:30pm at the Hairy Little Sista. Other late night shows include Ali McGregor’s Late-Nite Variety-Nite NightStand-Up Sit-Down: Comics in ConversationThe New Conway Tonight Show, and The After Party.
