ONE-OFFS: The future of comedy starts today as the festival hosts the 2013 Class Clowns National Grand Final. The showcase event features Australia’s finest under 18 years olds competing to take out the gong and a $2000 cash prize. The Grand Final will be hosted by DeAnne Smith and Matt Okine, with special guests the Pajama Men dropping by. The competition will feature state winners Lachie Clark (Victoria), Emma Hogan (South Australia), Sam Perry (Northern Territory), James Warren (Tasmania), Brandon Boccola (Western Australia), Rory Gillen (Australian Capital Territory), and Aaron Chen (New South Wales). The Grand Final takes place 1pm today at the Town Hall, tickets from Ticketmaster.

One more extra show has been added to the 2013 Comedy Festival lineup. Dave Callan, whose show The Psychology of Laughter has picked up strong reviews will provide a sample of his 2014 MICF show this weekend. A Little Less Conversation is an hour of dance, with Callan and dancers Clare Nica and Melissa Bruce showing off their finest moves. See it tonight and tomorrow, 11pm at Trades Hall.

Cinema Fiasco completes it’s festival run this evening with the screening of 1970 English gothic horror film Vampire Lovers. Review round-up website Rotten Tomatoes lists the film with an approval rating of 43 per cent, based on seven reviews, and is certified ‘rotten’, but don’t let that stop you seeing the film tonight, with live commentary from Geoff Wallis and Janet A. McLeod. See the film 7.30pm tonight at Cinema Nova, tickets from the box office.

Beat writer and Comedy Festival Funny Tonne contestant Nick Taras is doing a series of videos for The Age. Aiming on seeing 150 shows this year at the fest, he has seen 124 shows with not very long to go before the fest finishes. LATE NIGHT: In late night news, Festival Club has another edition of Comedy Bonanza tonight, featuring many of the festival’s finest acts strutting their stuff on the Hi-Fi bar stage. See the action from 11.15pm tonight, tickets at the door.
Also back tonight is Late Night Letters and Numbers – the quiz show that gets the words made and the numbers calculated up – with added interaction and drinking!
