Average weekend patronage hit more than two million trips, up 23 per cent compared with the same period last year. No ticket or myki is needed to travel for free, though some regional services still require a free reservation for seating allocations.

Summer activities are running across Metro Tunnel stations until 25 January. Families can tackle a scavenger hunt across the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury lines, following clues to uncover hidden gems. Prizes include Metro Tunnel merchandise and entries into a draw for one of 10 $150 myki vouchers plus prize packs.

More than 240 extra services are running weekly along the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury corridor, stopping at all five new stations on top of existing services. Over 600,000 passengers have already visited the new Metro Tunnel stations at Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac.

From 1 February, the Big Switch will fully integrate the Metro Tunnel into the network. Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines will run exclusively through the tunnels, adding 1,200 new services and delivering turn-up-and-go frequency across the five new stations.

Children under 18 can now catch public transport for free every day of the year with a Youth myki. Free weekend travel for all passengers wraps up on 1 February as the network transitions to its new timetable structure.
