Metro Tunnel stations are welcoming retailers ahead of the Big Switch on 1 February.

Retail fit-outs are well underway across all five new stations of the Metro Tunnel, with more than 90 per cent of the 27 retail spaces now leased. Coffee shops, fast food outlets and grocery stores will progressively open their doors to commuters throughout the coming months.

Parkville Station kicks things off with 7-Eleven and Sushi Sushi opening on 30 November, followed by KFC, McDonald’s and People’s Coffee by the end of December. Arden Station keeps it simple with Train Café, while State Library Station will house Sharetea and Mr Ramen.

Town Hall Station scores the most retail action with Sushi Jiro, McDonald’s, Starbucks, KFC, IGA and Brunetti’s Oro all setting up shop. Anzac Station rounds out the mix with 7-Eleven and Dumpling Chef.

Campbell Arcade‘s eight shopfronts will also reopen following a major upgrade of the iconic 1950s arcade connecting Flinders Street and Town Hall stations.

A new entrance at State Library Station opened today on the corner of Swanston and La Trobe streets, letting passengers tap on with their Myki and connect directly to Melbourne Central Station.

Metro Tunnel represents the biggest shake-up of Victoria’s rail network in 40 years, doubling the size of Melbourne’s underground system and paving the way for more trains running more frequently across the network.

Public transport will be free every weekend for every Victorian until Sunday 1 February, when the Metro Tunnel stations fully integrate into the wider network as part of the Big Switch. The Victorian government will officially open the tunnel on Sunday.
