YERP, DARK FUNERAL DID SPLIT WITH REGAIN

If you’re wondering what’s going down between Dark Funeral and longstanding label home Regain Records, the answer is: Nothing. Nothing as in, DF gave them the flick but never released a statement about it. They have now: “Time went by and we didn’t see any future whatsoever to continue to work with them. At this point in time we have not signed to a new label, but negotiations are currently taking place. And until we have signed a new deal, we are open to any and all offers that comes our way.”

I’ll sign you, guys.

CYCO MIKO GOING SOLO

Hulking Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir is dropping a solo record in October. He’s gonna call it The Mad Mad Muir Musical Tour. The backing band is impressive: Suicidal bassist Mike Trujillo (who now plays in Loutallica) is doing the low-end thing, huge bastard Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge will be banging out six-string riffage, and Bad Religion skinsman Brooks Wackerman has been tapped for the drum stool.

MUSIC INDUSTRY NOW DESPERATE, DEALS COCAINE

Well, it had to happen. Those formerly-massive majors aren’t exactly raking in the dough no more, and it’s a hard thing for most of them to adjust to. Pre-2K, the thing that every single band wanted was to get signed. Now, no-one gives a fuck. In fact, bands would prefer not to be signed. What’s a good label to do? In the case of Interscope, the answer is facilitate cocaine distribution. Check this report from the Smoking Gun:

“Department of Justice prosecutors this week provided defense lawyers with shipping records detailing ‘pickups and deliveries’ made at Interscope’s Los Angeles office by a cargo firm that was used to transport music cases, which were alternately stuffed with kilos of cocaine and upwards of $1 million in cash. A year-long Drug Enforcement Administration Investigation has resulted in the indictment of James Rosemond on 18 felony charges, which could result in a sentence of life in prison for the 46-year old rap music manager.”

Rosemond manages The Game, if you’re wondering. Well, he used to.

LOUTALLICA

Right, so. You want to hear some of this seemingly bizarre double-act Metallica have going on with Lou Reed? Morbid curiousity has you. Far be it for me to tell you what to enjoy, but this is shit. If you’re enjoying it, stop. This isn’t a cool and unlikely synthesis like the S&M sessions; it’s just more evidence that Craptallica’s best days are about 20 years behind them.

OBSCURA’S NEW BASSIST

You might remember that Obscura bass player Jeroen Thesseling quit the band some months ago, and there’s not been much talk of his replacement. Obscura’s a high-intensity outfit; it’s not the kind of band a guy can just waltz into and get comfortable. Shit’s tech, but they’ve now found their man: Linus Klausenitzer. Linus! He also slappa-da-bass in Noneuclid, if you’re down with your Euro-prog.

EVERMORE DARKLY ONLINE

Cradle Of Filth’s quick-as-you-like sequel to last year’s Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa will release on October 18, but until then you can hit up peaceville.com/cradleoffilth and hear a whole lot of it. The music video for Lilith Immaculate is also firing in its grim entirety.

DEATHQUOTE

“We called yesterday and said I couldn’t make [the gig]. And then I thought about it and I thought, ‘You know what? I trust God and I know He’s got me in His hands. I know that He hasn’t brought me this far through all this diversity and done all this reconciliation with all the [other] bands [the bill] and us all getting along this well to have the finale show [of the ‘Big Four’ tour] here in the States stopped. And I just thought, either God’s everything or it’s nothing, and I believe in Him, so that’s why I’m here.”

– that’s Dave Mustaine, giving thanks to the lord for miraculously healing his bent neck. And all in the name of thrash ‘n roll, too. Good form, god.

METALVISION

The Rotted are cool. They’re also putting out their next record Ad Nauseam on October 31st, which also Halloween and a bit appropriate seeing as the album is obsessed with witches and hammering them. Serious, scribble ‘The Rotted’s ‘Ad Nauseam’ Track-By-Track’ into YouTube and get the scoop.
