Melbourne prog metal icons Teramaze have just announced that that Rob Brens of I Built the Sky and Hadal Maw will be recording the drums on the band’s next record. He’s one of the most sought-after drummers in Australia and has also played with James Norbert Ivanyi, Rival Fire, King Parrot, Schoenberg Automation and many more. The band also recently announced that Jonah Weingarten is joining on keys (which is kinda funny cos he’s also a member of Danish power metal band Pyramaze).
This is gonna be a good one. El Colosso are joined by Siltman and My Old Dutch at The Reverence Hotel on Saturday October 21. Doors at 8pm, entry is $10. El Colosso is the coming together of four heavyweights of the Melbourne rock scene; Benny James Pertzel (Dirty York, King Wolf), Craig Fryers (Mushroom Giant, Dive Into Ruin), Peter ‘Red Dog’ Hayden (The Hybernators, Free To Run) and Matt ‘Koops’ Cooper (Bring On The Junta).
The mighty Ne Obliviscaris will be touring across Australia and New Zealand in February 2018 in support of their new album Urn, which is out on Friday October 27. It’ll be their first appearance in New Zealand as well as the first time they’ve played for their Aussie fans since December last year. The tracks ‘Intra Venus’, ‘Urn Part I’ and ‘Urn Part II’ have already been released so check them out in the usual places if you haven’t already. They’ll be at Max Watts on Saturday February 10.
Melbourne psychedelia act AlithiA have recruited Marjana Semkina from Russian chamber progressive band iamthemorning as special guest on lead vocals for their upcoming 29-date European tour supporting Norwegian prog-rockers Leprous and Iceland’s Agent Fresco, stepping in for frontman John Rousvanis who is unable to join this tour while he recovers from a recent injury. Marjana won both the Female Vocalist of the Year award and Woman of the Year award in the 2016 Prog Magazine Readers Poll, and she joins recent AlithiA live lineup recruits Tristan Chu (Aerials) and Nguyen Pham (Enlight). The new AlithiA album will be released in early 2018 and was recorded at Artracks Studio in Athens, Greece with producer Daniel Sandor (Thurtson Moore/Sonic Youth, Valerie Jean/Kosheen).
Oh hey so I’ve just launched a podcast as an offshoot of my I Heart Guitar blog. The I Heart Guitar Podcast is available on iTunes, Sticher, Podbean and the BlogTalkRadio network, and Episode One features interviews with Rich Ward of Fozzy, Tony MacAlpine, and an archival interview with Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi. The second episode should be out by the time you read this and it features chats with St. Vincent, Richie Kotzen, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, and Walter Trout.
