Aah, Halloween. Goth Christmas. The Bendigo Hotel has a hell of a Halloween show coming up in the form of the Heavy Metal Halloween on Friday October 27 (well you don’t expect them to pull a huge rager on actual Halloween on a Tuesday, right?). There will be prizes for best costume as you get your spook on to the sounds of Harlott, Envenomed, Espionage, Sudden State and Triple Kill. Entry is $15 and doors open at 7pm.

Melbourne’s The Cherry Dolls will release their debut full-length album Viva Los Dolls on Golden Robot Records on Friday November 24. They describe it as “an explosion of filthy primordial guitars, liquid rhythms and primal voodoo jams,” and it follows two acclaimed EPs. The album was recorded earlier this year with producer Alex Markwell of The Delta Riggs.

Melbourne doom folk duo SulduskEm Highfield and Nick Blackmore – are hard at work on their full-length album Solus Ipse with producers Mark Kelson (The Eternal) and Jesse Oberin. It’ll have nine tracks and is due for release in February, and the band describes it as a combination of the acoustic elements of Wolves In the Throne Room, Chelsea Wolfe and Opeth.

Melbourne’s YLVA will release their new album Meta on Friday November 17 via Pelagic Records, and the first single ‘Lapse’ is out now. Mike Deslandes says “It’s a more erratic track from the record that musically surges and slumps in and out the eye of an imminent storm. ‘Lapse’ is an internal measure of inevitable loss, the limbo whilst waiting for your world to be set alight all the while you know it’s coming. The song came together in the first hour that day at practice room. We all felt it push and pull in the right directions very quickly, it was a certainty for the record.” The album was recorded at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne, mixed by Mike Deslandes and mastered by Dav Byrne at Iridium Audio.

On Friday November 3 the mighty Cannibal Corpse will release their 14th full-length album, Red Before Black, via Metal Blade Records. The title track is now on YouTube and while you’re there you can also check out the video for previous single ‘Code of the Slashers,’ directed by Zev Deans, who directed the videos for Behemoth’s ‘Messe Noire,’ Ghost’s ‘Square Hammer’ and Portal’s ‘Curtain.’ The album will be available in a wide variety of formats including various CD packs plus limited coloured vinyl in white, opaque red, olive green marbled, blood red/black marbled, white and red splattered, translucent blue and more. Hit up the metalblade.com/cannibalcorpse to see all the variants and place your order.
