Wyndham Law Courts will begin operations this month, bringing justice services closer to home for western suburbs residents in Melbourne.
Located in Werribee, the $270 million facility represents the largest court complex outside the Melbourne CBD and addresses the “urgent” need for expanded legal infrastructure in one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing regions.
Opening next week, Wyndham Law Courts have the capacity to support almost 53,000 court hearings by 2036.
Built over 880,000 hours by more than 2,600 workers, the precinct houses 13 courtrooms, four hearing rooms and 26 holding cells. Modern courtroom technology enables remote hearings, digital evidence display and video conferencing, meaning cases can progress faster and more flexibly than traditional setups allow.

Security upgrades throughout the facility include advanced CCTV systems and dedicated safe waiting areas for vulnerable court users. Positioned next to Werribee Police Station – itself recently upgraded – the location allows efficient custody transfers while centralising justice services in the neighbourhood.
Three jurisdictions will launch immediately: Magistrates’ Court, Children’s Court and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. From 2027, a Koori Court and Specialist Family Violence Court will join operations, with purpose-designed spaces prioritising safety for victim-survivors, witnesses and protected parties.
Beyond traditional court functions, the precinct will accommodate diversionary programs and First Peoples justice initiatives, plus specialist Children’s Court services. This wraparound approach aims to reduce ongoing contact with the justice system by connecting court users with support services under one roof.
Transport access receives a boost too, with almost 400 extra weekly bus services on Route 15 servicing the precinct and benefiting over 4,500 households across the region.
For communities in Wyndham, Melton, Brimbank and surrounding areas, the facility ends the need to travel into the city for most court matters. As western suburbs continue rapid population growth, this infrastructure investment ensures justice services can scale alongside demographic change – bringing legal support, employment opportunities and community safety initiatives directly to the area.
