Melbourne’s getting a potato cake and spud festival

Disregard the real meaning of the word superfood; there is only one true superfood and that is the potato. Fried, mashed, roasted, baked – the potato does it all, so it isn’t surprising that for St. Patrick’s Day Melbourne food truck park The Ascot Lot is holding a Potato Cake and Spud Fest to celebrate the day.

The festival will include free potato cakes, $10 espresso martinis, $5 alcoholic popsicles and $8 pints of Guinness as well as live music and loads of potato-based food trucks. And just like that St. Paddy’s Day surpasses Christmas and New Years as your favourite holiday.

Whether you’re Irish or not, St. Patricks Day is now potentially a day to eat potatoes and drink beer and really, any day where you can eat potatoes and drink beer is a good day.

Admission is free and you can even bring your dog. What more could you want really?
