Melbourne synth-punk band Screensaver announce huge national tour

words by staff writer

They've just shared a new single, Drainer, the second off their forthcoming album.

The rising post-punk five-piece Screensaver is embarking on a month-long East Coast tour in support of their sophomore album, Decent Shapes. Hitting big cities, regional towns and everything in between, the band will be tearing up dance floors with their distinct brand of synth-driven heat.

The tour will start with a massive album release show at the Curtin on October 21 alongside local favourites Enola and Cong Josie.

Set to drop on October 20, Decent Shapes is a confrontational 10-song collection that isn’t afraid to let loose. Using jagged guitars, dark synths and experimental electronic influences, the band relays a sense of manic urgency that propels listeners through from start to finish.

They’ve just dropped its second single, Drainer, and a moody accompanying video shot on camcorder in Melbourne’s inner north by fellow musician, producer, and videographer Grace Stevenson.

“In the clip we’re really trying to communicate a sense of frustration but with a lighthearted approach, highlighting a few of the everyday things that can happen in your day-to-day to put you in a shitty mood,” says singer and synth player Krystal Maynard.

“It’s not a literal interpretation of the song’s lyrics, but more about capturing a mood; the live set at the end is the cathartic release where the band gets to shake off all that draining energy.”
