Melbourne Recital Centre curates a January chock-full of cabaret, cult classics and gigs for kids

The Necks, Robin Fox, music for kids and more point to a perfect January coming up at Melbourne Recital Centre.

No matter your music taste, your age or the company that you bring, there’s no doubt you’ll find a show you love at Melbourne Recital Centre this January.

School holidays have just been kicked up a notch with the Mini Music-Lovers series taking over MRC for a couple of days mid-January. From dance parties to music stories, the special program encourages kids and families to step away from their everyday routines and into a world of sound and colour.

For listeners thirsty for a show outside of the usual, MRC delivers gold with a live audio-visual and sound performance, a Pet Shop Boys-soundtracked cabaret and a cult-classic Australian band back for a gig of a lifetime.

Mobile MESS: Creating Electronic Sound Workshop for Kids

Kicking off five magical events as part of the Mini Music-Lovers series at Melbourne Recital Centre this January, Mobile MESS invites kids (recommended ages seven to twelve) to come and get excited by the endless possibilities of electronic music. Not only will this sound workshop keep the little ones’ hands and ears busy, they’ll also be learning from the masters at MESS.

Woody’s Bush Cabaret

Get ready to go on a journey through Woody’s World of music, puppetry and theatre as Woody and his band of eccentric friends soundtrack your Wednesday morning. The music continues for Mini Music-Lovers with PLAY DATE hitting the stage at MRC this January. This is the story of Cinderella, but not as you know it. Inventi Ensemble are bringing Prokofiev’s Cinderella to life with an interactive musical performance of the enchanting tale, composed by Sally Whitwell. Zindzi & The Zillionaires

For the final instalment of Melbourne Recital Centre’s Mini Music-Lovers series, ARIA-nominated Zindzi & The Zillionaires are gearing up to set the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall alight with the kind of colourful songs you and the family won’t be able to stop dancing to. Zindzi and her fluffy friends share their passionate messages of friendship, confidence, positivity and love through a kaleidoscope of RnB, hip-hop and rap.

It’s a Sin explores sexuality during the heightened period of the AIDS epidemic, as well as the power – and challenges – of love.
