Melbourne public transport users in the north will benefit from improved bus services, with 140 extra weekly services on Route 390.

Melbourne public transport route 390, connecting Mernda Station to Craigieburn Station via Wollert, will run more frequently on weekdays and Saturdays. Route 390 services will also operate later into the evening, giving commuters better access to work, school and train connections across Melbourne public transport networks.

Improvements include extending weekday services until midnight with buses running every 20 minutes on average between 6am and 7pm. This connects passengers to either the Mernda or Craigieburn lines on the Melbourne public transport Metro network, plus V/Line services on the Seymour or Shepparton lines that stop at Craigieburn Station.

Melbourne public transport service upgrades

  • Weekday services: Extended until midnight with 20-minute frequency between 6am-7pm
  • Saturday services: Extended two hours later until midnight
  • Sunday services: Continue operating 7:30am until 10pm
  • School access: Continued service to Gilson College Mernda Campus, Mernda Central P-12 College, Wollert Secondary College
  • Total addition: 140 extra weekly services

Saturday services gain a two-hour extension until midnight, perfect for getting home after city nights out or footy matches. Sunday operations remain unchanged, running from 7:30am until 10pm.

Students attending local schools including Gilson College Mernda Campus, Mernda Central P-12 College and Wollert Secondary College will continue to have reliable Melbourne public transport access between home and school.

Funding for these new services comes through the Victorian government’s Growth Area Infrastructure Contribution, designed to deliver better bus access across growing Melbourne communities. Since launching Victoria’s Bus Plan, more than 117 local bus networks have been upgraded, providing Victorian communities with over 7,200 extra weekly services.

Route 390 improvements represent another step forward in enhancing Melbourne public transport connectivity for northern suburbs residents who rely on bus-to-train connections for their daily travel needs.
