Dallas Woods is a rapper, lyricist, recording artist, and MC from The Kimberley, now based in Castlemaine. Galaxy Hop is the electronic musings of Tom Norton and friends – playing upbeat, jaunty Krautrock. Emotive lyrics, brooding guitar, and catchy refrains underpin the sound of Nadia Phillips – who was born and bred in Castlemaine and splits her time between Melbourne and the goldfields.

Together, these three bands aim to celebrate and connect Regional Victoria with Melbourne once again.

The showcase is part of the Regional Music Development pilot program in Mount Alexander Shire – funded by Creative Victoria and delivered in partnership by Music Victoria and Regional Arts Victoria. The Regional Music Development Program is designed to create a long lasting legacy by empowering regional music industry with the skills, networks and strategies they need to recover from the effects of COVID-19 and carry that increased capacity into the future.

DALLAS WOODS

In the three years since he’s been releasing music, Dallas has used his songwriting as a powerful platform to speak about his experiences in life as an Indigenous man, the justice system, racial stereotyping and his own personal struggles. With a no holding back approach to writing, the 26 year old uses wit and wordplay to get his messages out, weaving comments on big issues into rapid-fire rhymes. Mentoring Baker Boy through his entire career and having huge moments himself through 20-21 with his recent releases.

GALAXY HOP

Galaxy Hop is the electronic musings of Tom Norton and friends. Born in 2015 with the intention of arpeggios leading the musical direction, Galaxy Hop have become a classic “welcome back to your caravan” kind of band, but it all started from humble beginnings. Tom wrote songs on a holiday overseas, then came home and asked two good friends to play live shows, then another good friend Shan joined, and now there are 4 band members. Tom’s dog is normally there too.

NADIA PHILLIPS & THE GIRLFRIENDS

Nadia Phillips is an Australian singer/songwriter who keeps exploring instruments, styles and genres. From the historic township of Castlemaine, she enjoyed an upbringing surrounded by music, art and nature. Your Dark Side is her second single, delivering quality lyrics and musicality that have become a trait of this emerging young artist. Nadia started writing and releasing her Lofi bedroom recordings to SoundCloud in her mid-teens.
