Tell us about Bad Shepherd. The brainchild of a husband and wife team – Dereck and Diti Hales – Bad Shepherd is all about tempting you with fine craft beer then complementing that with our menu heaving with smoked meat delicacies and good ol’ fashioned comfort food. Let us lead you into temptation.
What is it about Melbourne you particularly love reppin’? We love the fact that where possible our suppliers are from Melbourne too – or worst case country Victoria. From our bottles, to our labels, right through to our malt, dairy and bakery suppliers, everything is literally only a few kilometres away.
Do you collaborate with other local Melbourne companies? We have brewed several beers with other local breweries and have taps too dedicated to ‘guest’ beers from those breweries. On a monthly basis, we run ‘Date Night’. This is where we invite another brewery to take over our brewpub and sell their beers and merchandise to our loyal customers.
What is Bad Shepherd most proud of? We’ve been open for about a year and a half now, and we’re proud of the business we’ve built, not to mention the support we’ve had from our customers.
How does Bad Shepherd foster a sense of community? Our most significant community impact comes through our Karma Keg concept, where we hold fundraising events for local causes and donate the proceeds from selected kegs to them. We also support local sports clubs through sponsorship. These contributions allow them to continue to provide a sporting outlet for their members.
