Walkinshaw Group specialises in vehicle enhancements and left-hand-drive to right-hand-drive conversions for global brands including General Motors, Toyota, Volkswagen and Isuzu. The company will manufacture more than 10,000 vehicles a year for the Australian market from the new facility, which represents a significant vote of confidence in Victoria’s manufacturing capabilities.

Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing Colin Brooks opened the 100,000-square-metre facility, which brings together operations from three existing sites and can accommodate up to 1,500 employees. This consolidation represents a strategic expansion for the company and a substantial investment in Victoria’s manufacturing future.

Australia’s most advanced automotive engineering centre sits within the new site, alongside more than four production lines. A renewable solar energy system supports future projects, positioning the facility as both technologically advanced and environmentally conscious. The scale of the operation makes it one of the largest manufacturing facilities in the country.

Victoria’s broader automotive industry employs more than 50,000 people across the state. Several renowned automotive manufacturers call Victoria home, including ARB, Premcar and APV. This ecosystem of automotive expertise and manufacturing capability made Victoria the natural choice for Walkinshaw’s major expansion.

Walkinshaw Group has grown from its roots to become Australia’s largest automotive re-manufacturing company, with a client roster that includes some of the world’s biggest automotive brands. Converting vehicles for the Australian market requires specialized knowledge and precision engineering, capabilities that the new Dandenong South facility enhances significantly.

Victorian government support for the manufacturing sector continues through the recently launched Victorian Industry Policy and the new $150 million Victorian Investment Fund. These initiatives help businesses expand, innovate and create skilled jobs across the state, with Walkinshaw’s new facility serving as a flagship example of what’s possible when government backing meets private sector ambition.
