The first comedian nominated is Angus Gordon for Sad Boy Comedy Hour. A show laced with punchy one-liners and bleak anti-humour had everyone in stitches. His show also had a distinct originality about it which had punters guessing every night.

Aaron Chen has also been nominated for his show, The Infinite Faces of Chenny Baby. An experienced comedian, it’s a surprise that he has only just made his debut, nevertheless, his show added a refreshing flavour to the 2017 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Other nominees include Fringe Wives Club for Glittery Clittery: A ConSENSUAL Party. When Tessa Waters, Rowena Hutson and Victoria Falconer-Pritchard take the stage it’s full throttle but equally hysterical. Another original performance, the Fringe Wives Club combined live music, epic dance moves and sharp feminist sass with sublime.

Another triple-threat comes The Travelling Sisters who drew rapturous applause for their profound idiocy, ridiculousness and unpredictability – but that’s why it was so good. Sam Taunton rounds out the list with Taunts Down For What. He’s someone who needs no introduction who made fans laugh the world over with his quirky story-telling of all the crazy things he’s done in his life.
