The Golden Gibbo is an award named in honour of the late, great Lynda Gibson and is an award for a local and independent artist whose work pushes the boundaries and puts artistic integrity over commercial gain. Nominees this year include Shit-Wrecked! by Mel & Sam, The Disappearing Act by Maria Angelico, Broad by Geraldine Quinn, Ouch! by Ashley Apap, Lightly Familiar by Aiden Willcox, Hey Hey It’s Doomsday by Ross Purdy and To Schapelle and Back by Alex Hines.

Other awards will be handed out during the ceremony, including the Piece of Wood comic’s choice award – in which a past winner will present an award to a peer for “doin’ good stuff ‘n’ that”. Also up to be won is the Director’s Choice Award, the People’s Choice Award and the Pinder Prize.

The winners will be announced by host Joel Creasey during a live stream on the Festival’s Facebook Page at 1:15pm on Saturday April 23.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival runs for two more days, until April 24. For more information, and to grab a final ticket, head here.
