Melbourne bogan-funk crew Playlunch are taking their nostalgia-fuelled party show on a massive regional road trip across Australia.
Fresh off selling out their capital city album tour in September, Playlunch are bringing the Sex Ed album to 29 regional stages from December through to May.
This isn’t just a victory lap either, it’s a proper thank you to the fans who’ve been backing them from day one, with stops in towns that don’t always get the big touring acts rolling through.
Victorian punters who missed out on their Melbourne shows at 170 Russell, The Leadbeater and those surprise late night sets at The Night Cat now have plenty of chances to catch the band in action. They’re hitting Warrnambool, Phillip Island, Bendigo, Ballarat, Frankston, Lorne, St Kilda, South Morang, Traralgon and Barwon Heads throughout the first half of next year.

Western Australia gets a proper workout too, kicking off with a New Year’s Eve show in Scarborough before the band returns in January for stops in Bunbury, Margaret River and Albany. Queensland fans on the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast are sorted, while New South Wales cops the biggest helping with shows stretching from Byron Bay down to Wollongong, taking in Sydney, Newcastle and a bunch of coastal spots along the way. Canberra gets a midweek show at UC Hub, and Tasmania sees the band return for Good Gumnuts Festival plus a headline gig in Hobart.
September’s capital city tour was absolutely cooked in the best way possible, with Playlunch selling out their biggest venues yet. Now they’re doing what they’ve always done best; getting out to the regional centres and putting on a show for the people who’ve had their backs since the start. Fans can expect plenty of new Sex Ed tracks getting their first regional airings, plus all the classics that have made Playlunch the soundtrack to every millennial’s nostalgic fever dream.
If you grew up in Australia anytime in the last 30 years, Playlunch’s music hits different. They’ve built an entire catalogue around the weird, wonderful cultural moments that shaped us; getting absolutely gassed at athletics carnivals, awkwardly shuffling around at Blue Light Discos, and spending sick days glued to Agro’s Cartoon Connection and whatever else televesion was serving up. Their live shows are basically one big communal memory unlock, complete with enough dancing to make your year six PE teacher proud.
Having just signed with international booking agency Mint Talent Group, Playlunch are gearing up to take their distinctly Australian brand of bogan-funk overseas. That means these regional dates could be your last chance to catch them on home turf for a good while. Better dust off your best Kmart trackies and grab a ticket before they disappear faster than a Tim Tam packet at smoko.
Regional touring has always been a priority for Playlunch, and this run proves they’re not just paying lip service to it. Twenty-nine dates across five states is no joke, especially when you’re hauling gear from Belgrave to Bunbury and everywhere in between. But that’s the whole point; bringing the party to places that deserve it just as much as the big smoke.
DAL/Early Lunch presale kicks off Wednesday 19 November at 10am local time, with general sale following Friday 21 November at 10am local time.
