Anna Oliphant Wright

How do you feel Melbourne Music Bank will best benefit your goals?

I feel like the Melbourne Music Bank will benefit my goals by giving me an amazing opportunity to understand how the music industry works and strategies around how to develop a brand so people can hopefully listen to my music. It will also let me further explore the dream of being a successful musician.

What sort of impact are you hoping your music will make on listeners/other music artists in the world?

I’d love my music to be able to bring people together and inspire people to have the courage to do what makes them happy. I’d like to think my music can help people fight all the bad stuff in order to do the things they love, such as spending all day in your PJs eating avocado toast.

B Cardamone

How do you feel Melbourne Music Bank will best benefit your goals?

It would provide me with opportunities that were never available due to lack of funds and lack of knowledge.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I’m going to say Madison Square Garden and put that into the universe. If you are headlining a show at Madison Square Garden, your music must be doing alright.

Yobs

How do you perceive the music industry today?

Australian artists do not get the recognition they deserve, I feel like we need to come together and embrace the music scene here so we can help it grow.

What is your goal as a future musician?

To become the greatest, if you’re going to do something always aim for the top and I feel like not only do I have the skill and potential to be the best but the charisma and energy to do whatever I set my mind to.

Sal Wonder

What inspired you to apply for Melbourne Music Bank?

This is the first time I’ve entered my music into a competition, and when I noticed what was on offer I couldn’t pass it up. I just finished my debut EP and decided it was worth the long shot.

What do you love the most about making music?

Personally it’s the one thing that keeps me balanced, the one thing I’m fully in control of and the only thing I have to answer for. It keeps me honest.

Heavy Heads

Who’s your favourite music artist and why?

Right now we’re all big fans of Violent Soho.  They’ve got great live energy and have some killer tracks.

What is your goal as a future musician?

We’d love to tour. Nothing gives us kicks like performing live. If we can keep doing it then we’re happy.

Batz

How do you feel Melbourne Music Bank will best benefit your goals?

The prize for the winner is amazing, that would be a huge help in terms of being granted opportunities that would otherwise be a little further down the track for us. In the short term it’s good to be recognised for the music we’re making.

What sort of impact are you hoping your music will make on listeners/other music artists in the world?

We want listeners to feel like they have no inhibitions and they can do whatever the hell they want. They can get angry and excited and flail around like animals and we’ll join in too.

Birdhouse

What do you love the most about making music?

The creative process is always fun and challenging. During jams, we are constantly spinning off new ideas and ways to improve or alter our songs. Having four of us who are so similar, albeit so different, creates an interesting and exciting dynamic.

How do you feel Melbourne Music Bank will best benefit your goals?

Melbourne Music Bank would change our lives dramatically. It would allow us to continue doing what we love: playing music with each other, while also enhancing our ability to become recognised within the Melbourne music scene.

James Franklin

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

New Orleans. From The Meters to Fats Domino, the soul is crazy.

What sort of themes do you want to explore in your music?

I could write about love or my left leg, it does seem slightly stronger than the right but does that mean it deserves a song? I usually let the music go where it needs to.

Zii

What inspired you to apply for Melbourne Music Bank?

Having been a part of the music scene now for 12 months we’d just started working on a new project and I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity

What is your goal as a future musician?

We’re actually in the process of putting together a few projects that will allow myself and some of my peers to be mentors to younger upcoming musicians. That’s our focus at the moment.

Bloom

What is your goal as a future musician?

My goal as a future musician is to be able to create music that will be remembered: music that could be considered timeless.

Who is your favourite music artist and why?

At the moment, Nai Palm from Hiatus Kaiyote. Vocally, she’s unbelievable. I love how the band experiments with strange timing and how their music is about feeling. I also admire how they are a fusion of different styles, this makes them sound unique.

Sienna Wild

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Hyde Park. The Stones played a free concert there in 1969, two days after their former guitarist Brian Jones had died. If we were to one day play there, you’d have us all teary eyed to say the least.

What do you love the most about making music?

There’s something special about making music with the same guys you drink and hang out with every weekend. That’s where our band’s chemistry comes from. We are in total awe of each other’s musicianship. We still shit ourselves a little bit every time Jase rips an insane drum fill, or Jon screws up a guitar lead break or when Lou pulls out some Flea bass lines. We love it.

Tempus Sun

What sort of impact are you hoping your music will make on listeners/other music artists in the world?

So far a lot of the tunes are interpretive, positive interpretive though. As long as it has a positive impact, which can vary from person to person, we don’t mind.

How do you perceive the music industry today?

It’s tough. Which certainly isn’t a deterrent nor should it be for anyone. Anyone thinking of taking it on should go hard at it. We are about to.
