The location has a long history dating back to the 1960s, having served as a hat factory, nightclub, wedding reception centre, French restaurant, and the beloved Spotted Mallard.

Boasting a refurbished look inspired by Prahan’s legendary Continental Café of the ‘90s, the new venue will seat up to 290 people, and includes the Brunswick Artists’ Bar downstairs as a secondary space.

The Brunswick Ballroom promises to host an eclectic and diverse range of performances, celebrating the best entertainment Melbourne has to offer.

“Whether it is a live band, a comedian, a classical pianist or a major cabaret star they will all find a new home at the Brunswick Ballroom,” theatre producer, concert promoter and venue spearhead, Andrew Kay AM, said in a statement.

Hosting its first gig on February 25, The Brunswick Ballroom’s program over its first month includes performances from well-known artists such as Kate Ceberano, Tim Rogers, Ross Wilson, Brian Cadd, Underground Lovers, and David Helfgott, as well as rising stars Grace Cummings, Ben Mastwyk and Cool Sounds.

The Brunswick Ballroom will also feature performances from D’Arcy Spiller, Girlatones and Bitch Diesel as a part of the Brunswick Music Festival, which will also include a free gig on March 9 by Loretta and her Boyfriends at the Brunswick Artists’ Bar downstairs.

A further lineup as a part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival will also be announced in the coming weeks.

The venue will also host The Brunswick Ballroom Opening Gala on Thursday March 4 and Friday March 5, with full details and the artist lineup to be announced. This event will stand as the perfect opening salute to an exciting new era.
