Milonga Dance Party

Leela Peart and Victor Bennetts bring the passionate rhythms of Argentina to Coburg with their milonga dance party. The wooden dance floor provides the perfect setting for dancers of all skill levels, while Victor’s carefully selected tango tracks create an authentic atmosphere through a high-quality sound system. Everyone is welcome, say the organisers, making this an accessible entry point for tango newcomers and seasoned dancers alike.
SHS Resident’s Exhibition

Schoolhouse Studios’ resident artists are “going hard in all directions” for their annual showcase. Curated by Claudia Phillips and Josh Sollitt, the exhibition titled Go Hard brings together diverse mediums including painting, sculpture, video installation and performance. “What happens when our community tries to think limitlessly and what do we make when we are put under these constraints? How as artists can we egg each other on and challenge each other?” asks the curatorial statement. The exhibition features works characterized by explosive colours, dynamic movement and visceral textures from artists including Anastasia Hatzikosmidis, Ashley Ronning, Chris Henschke and over twenty others.
Unpacking the Qualities of Great Public Space

This hands-on event brings together community members, academics and architecture students to explore what makes public spaces successful. No one understands public space the way that locals do, so we want community members to be part of the conversation and share their perspectives, explains the Merri-bek City Council. Participants will explore questions around comfort, safety, accessibility and natural elements in our shared urban environments.

Atkins’ work transforms fleeting moments from familiar suburban routes into lasting artistic impressions. Her paintings capture the distinct textures of communities from Melbourne’s inner north through to regional Victoria, with a particular focus on light, shadow and the poetic aspects of ordinary scenes. The exhibition invites viewers to pause and appreciate the beauty in ephemeral details that typically pass unnoticed.

Northern suburbs cabinet maker Zac Coverdale brings his recreational passion for comic art to Schoolhouse Studios. His self-taught approach yields dynamic images of warriors, creatures and fantasy landscapes influenced by artists like Frank Frazetta and Bernie Wrightson. The exhibition showcases Coverdale’s skill across multiple mediums and his distinctive visual storytelling.
Queer Cabaret Merri-bek

Lucy Best presents an evening celebrating the vibrant LGBTIQA+ creative community of Merri-bek. “Get ready for a night of unabashed fabulousness,” promises Best, who will host performances by Two Women With Eyes, Michele da Costa, Giann Tess, Saara Lamberg, Penny Drops and Miss Lulu Lipstick. Supported by Arts Merri-bek’s Flourish grants program, the cabaret offers various ticket options including pay-it-forward and concession prices.
