Max Aurora & The Southern Lights

Bar Open

Max Aurora & The Southern Lights are launching their single “How I Missed Home” at Bar Open on July 15th.
With support from:
Charlotte Allison
Ancient Animal Orchestra

Based in Naarm, Max’s (they / them) crooning vocals combine with a patchwork of indie, folk and emo influences to create a vibrant, honest sound. From fictional characters’ perspectives, to sifting through their daily life, Max creates heart-gripping songs that treat emotions with care and curiosity and look for ways to find comfort in awe and nature.

“How I Missed Home” was written after Max watched a documentary about one of the youngest people to sail around the world, Laura Dekker. The song tells of how Laura longed to divert from her trip to return to the home her family left in Aotearoa. With Laura’s permission, the band filmed a music video using footage from her trip.

This gig will be taking place on unceded Wurundjeri Woiwurrung land, and we pay every respect to their elders past and present.
