A fairly lengthy track possessing a narrow thematic scope, Nourishment is ultimately weighed down by the analogue between Australia’s lack of food identity and the maltreatment of black Australians. It’s an interesting and worthy talking point, but not really one that can be carried throughout the entirety of a song when no alternative or answer is provided, leaving the pervading self-righteousness (“Am I right? / Yeah, well alright then”) sitting not quite right. Regardless, the electronica-tinged production is remarkable, Mathas’s lyrical flow is on point and Abbe May’s haunting choral hook is a entrancing blend of beauty and unease.
