Masked Wolf headlines the final Fed Live with a lineup of free, unmissable hip-hop

Words by Luke Carlino

Don’t miss your last chance for free live music this summer, thanks to the final Fed Live.

As the warmth of summer slowly starts to fade away, we must seize any opportunities available to make the most of evenings that do not run the risk of pneumonia, which they inevitably will as the year rolls on.

For this reason, we strongly recommend striking March 24 out in your calendar for a free evening of fun and live hip-hop in Federation Square. Fed Live, the annual free summer festival, is always the perfect way to kick off a new year, and the organisers have truly outdone themselves in 2023 with some of the finest line-ups the square has ever seen.

Masked Wolf at Fed Live 2023

  • Fed Live with Masked Wolf
  • Supported by Kootsie Don, POOKIE, Agung Mango and Big Twisty & The Funknasty
  • Friday 24 March, 6pm–10.30pm. Free!

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

The final night of Fed Live, a free initiative that brings some of Australia’s biggest acts and best up-and-comers to the large stage in Fed Square, wraps up with plenty of beats to get your body moving. The closing event will also be the biggest, with a massive five-act hip-hop focussed lineup that will keep heads bopping from 6pm – 10:30pm in Melbourne’s centre.

The most-globally-Shazamed artist, Sydney’s Masked Wolf, will be leading the charge as part of his significant rise to stardom since the release of his debut album Astronomical in 2021. Masked Wolf is known for his powerful and primal vocal delivery, and his hit single Astronaut in the Ocean is everywhere on TikTok and was even used on Instagram by Kansas City Chief Super Bowl quarterback Patrick Mahomes! So, if you’ve heard the song every few swipes, this is your chance to get Masked Wolf out of your feed and in front of your eyes in the real world!

The main support duties fall to Big Twisty & The Funknasty, who will be offering up their unique blend of funky beats and smooth rhymes. If James Brown, Outkast and Kendrick Lamar were popped into a blender, the result would be the eclectic sounds of Big Twisty. Their debut EP was released in 2021, resulting in critical acclaim and a devoted fan base making Big Twisty & The Funknasty one of the most exciting newcomers to the Aussie music scene. Their high-energy live show guarantees an instant dancefloor and plenty of good times for all in attendance.

The bill will also bring Agung Mango, an experimental rapper whose gritty and unabashed style draws influence from artists like Denzel Curry and slowthai. Sometimes punk, a little jazz, and even some alternative R&B, Agung can rap over pretty much anything – and does. His singles TOUGHSKIN and RODENT have brought him to festival stages like Laneway and Golden Plains, with a Genesis Owusu tour support in the mix as well. Most recently, Agung released his debut EP, which you’ll be able to hear live if you secure an early spot.

If all of this is sounding swell, you’ll be happy to know that Fed Live has another two acts for the bill to really send summer off the right way. POOKIE is an independent South Sudanese artist who is known for her fierce bars and unique, self-produced beats. The 6pm opening act will be Sydney-based First Nations rapper Kootsie Don, originally hailing from Darwin, whose blend of hip hop and R&B has gained over 20,000 views on YouTube. Her tunes are as hard-hitting as they are soulful and catchy R&B tracks. Kootsie Don is the perfect way to set the evening off with high-energy and great beats, so consider your whole evening sorted with this powerhouse lineup of Australian hip-hop.

Fed Live is a great initiative that gives people of all ages the chance to see some of Australia’s finest acts live for free. Set to the stunning Melbourne skyline, there is no better spot to spend a warm summer evening listening to the perfect playlist of this country’s trending tunes. From well-known names that dominate the airwaves to your potential future favourite up-and-comers, you’ll get a great sampling of the current music scene while having a great night out.

Get in early on Friday March 24, secure your spot, then dance the evening away to celebrate summer and the vibrant hip-hop scene in Australia. For all the info, hit up the website here.
