Malthouse Theatre to Present Edward II

He was considered a leader who failed to lead, who lost everything because of his addiction to another man. He spent his days lavishing his lover Piers with titles and riches and was convinced he was invincible, causing outrage across the nation.

The production is set to be a new and radically revamped adaptation of Australian expat Anthony Weigh’s original spectacular. A perverse, sexy and provocative look at an inglorious leader who pays the ultimate price for making the personal political.

Featuring Paul Ashcroft (Cruel and Tender, Howie the Rookie), Johnny Carr (What Rhymes With Girls and Cars, M+M), Marco Chiappi (The Mystery of the Handsome Cab) and Belinda McClory (The Doctor Blake Mysteries) the performance drops Elizabethan language and infuses the work with 21st century lust and politics.
