Local support acts have been announced for the headline shows, with Morton Choppers opening in Sydney, Salt & Steel joining the Melbourne and Castlemaine dates, and Dan Bud Wiser warming up Gold Coast and Brisbane crowds.
Vapors of Morphine formed in the late 2000s when original Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Lyons, continuing the legacy of the pioneering 90s trio after frontman Mark Sandman’s sudden death on stage in 1999.
The band’s latest album, Fear & Fantasy (2021), represents a new chapter while honouring the original Morphine sound – a distinctive fusion of baritone saxophone, two-string slide bass, and drums.
Melbourne guitarist and singer-songwriter Jeb Cardwell, who performs with Kasey Chambers’ band and has opened for Steve Earle and Tony Joe White, will join Vapors of Morphine as special guest on all shows except Gumball Festival.
The band recently highlighted issues with social media platforms blocking their content due to their name. Meta’s AI filters trigger drug abuse warnings when users search for “Vapors of Morphine” despite the band name referencing Morpheus, the Greek god of dreams.
