Love Wins: Australia votes ‘Yes’ for same-sex marriage

The time has come. Australia has voted ‘yes’ in the same-sex marriage survey, voting in favour of changing the Marriage Act to allow same-sex marriage weighing in at 61 percent of the vote.

But the battle isn’t over yet. The marriage equality process will now return to Canberra and require parliament to formally allow it.

However, most members of parliament support the process, so the likelihood is that legislation would pass easily.

More than 12 million Australians participated in the multimillion-dollar plebiscite, with over 65,000 new young Australians enrolling to vote.

The 18 to 19-year-old demographic responded strongly, with a participation rate of over 79 percent.
