Amongst the Melbourne Fringe Festival’s finest theatre is Love Song, a John Kolvenbach play. Love Song opens on Thursday September 21 at he Collingwood Arts Precinct and explores how we shut out the strange and normalise ourselves with what we find familiar. As the world grows increasingly disconnected, Love Song explores the consequences of shutting yourself away from the world.
Melbourne Fringe Festival is a time for artists to develop, experiment and present what Melbourne has to offer. The immensley talented group of artists presenting the play are comic Francis Greenslade (Mad as Hell), Nicholas Denton (Melbourne Theatre Company), Lucy Moir (The Dressmaker), Jordan Fraser Trumble (You Got Older) and Bonnie Moir.
This performance of the show unconventionally uses 3 stages while letting the audience take centre stage, in rotating chairs to face the various stages. The unique atmosphere continues through Melbourne musician Grace Ferguson’s composition including the use of a theremin and other instruments.
At the time of release, Love Song was called one of the best plays of the year by the Daily Telegraph due to it comical nature yet ability to be deeply touching. The last performance in Melbourne was in 2008 by the MTC but was most famously performed by Cillian Murphy, Neve Campbell and Michael McKean in London.
The evening is set to be an immersive one making Love Song a taste of Fringe Festival at its best.
