For all the fools who fall in love.. this April Fools day The Count’s presents a specially curated concert. Featuring songs about the idiocy of love and heartbreak from jazz to soul to blues, performed by some of Melbourne’s most soulful voices.
I’m a Fool To Want You; Baby I’m A Fool; These Foolish Things; Fool That I Am.. why do so many songwriters write about the fools of love? In this exclusive concert, jazz-blues vocalist Henry Manetta and soul diva Lisa Faithful present their interpretations of gut wrenching soul ballads, torch songs and rollicking blues. Accompanied by the Adam Rudegeair trio expect songs by Etta James, Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Aretha Franklin and original soul and blues.
From the Adelaide avant-blues band Precious Memories to his current band The Trip, Henry Manetta has been spreading his cosmic blues far and wide for over 40 years. He has been described in the pages of The Age as “Australian jazz’s most unique vocalist bar none”. Henry has shared stages with Wendy Saddington, Margret RoadKnight, Joe Camilleri, Harry James Angus, and Steve Sedergreen.
Lisa Faithful is a Melbourne-based vocalist and songwriter. Her larger than life personality pours through her powerful voice and commanding stage presence. Her voice can channel the roughness of Janis Joplin and the sweetness of a young Aretha Franklin – sometimes within the same song. Her energy radiates so much joy her life shows feel like a celebration, even when she’s singing about social justice and street life.
Music Director and ‘musical maverick’ (Sydney Morning Herald), Adam Rudegeair is a Pianist, composer and broadcaster. His portfolio of projects is sprawling, and includes Lake Minnetonka, The Bowie Project, Henry Manetta and the Trip, Retconned Bond, and Bourbon Street to Brunswick Street (a collaboration with ‘boss of the piano’ Bob Sedergreen). Adam’s musical interests include New Orleans piano stylings, Prince and the Minneapolis sound, and film soundtracks. Since 2008 he has hosted the weekly jazz radio program ‘Black Wax’ on PBS 106.7FM, and has interviewed artists such as Chick Corea, Janelle Monae and Dr John.
